NSG498 UP Data Biases Discussion
Description
Please respond to the following discussion post question in a minimum of 175 words:
Have you found a literature source that can help you with options to overcome biases?
My initial post was: I anticipate challenges in data collection in the form of data bits. Though I look forward to credible and dependable results, I am aware of the conscious or unconscious influence on the project, which may make the results less reliable. There is possible selection bias because I can only interview the staff available and willing to participate in the interview. These interviews are limited to randomization, which facilitates the inclusion of people by chance. The selection bias may under represent care providers. Further, the selection bias may also affect the patient’s survey.
Observational bias is another big challenge in this project and will likely influence the patient’s survey. If the patients become aware they are being observed, they may act differently or alter answers to some questions, consciously or unconsciously.
Finally, conducting health literacy on patient fall may be limited by a short inpatient period. Other patients may not be in a condition to know and understand because of their health status, while others may be disinterested in learning. This barrier to health literacy may be a crucial challenge for the project.
